Journal Entry 7: Sabotage 🕳️

The Clinician’s Journal Entry

Helping clinicians beat burnout & bulletproof their bag—1 journal entry at a time.

Journal Entry 7 on May 4, 2025

It’s Sunday afternoon at 2:36 pm. I just completed my final clinical note in Carelogic.

I’m proud of myself because I billed the most hours last week since I have been back in Philly.

I’m even more proud of myself because last week was an extremely emotional week.

My emotions ran high due to

Hormones
Triggers
Grief
Loss

-I am grieving the loss of space.

-I am hormonal due to perimenopause.

-I am triggered as I am in a new emotional place.

In the past, when I was emotional, triggered or grieving, I allowed my emotions to override my rational decisions.

I called out from work.
I canceled appointments.
I created excuses not to get out of bed.

Simply put, I

Lost money
Ruined my budget
Sabotaged my financial goals

Not to bore you with the details, at one time in my life I burnt out so bad I was down and out for four months. I walked away from

A $70K annual salary working 3 days a week
A startup business featuring my artwork
A $80K annual salary offer

As I mentioned in the first Journal Entry titled, Boundaries, I worked as a Program Director for a group home housing male adolescents.

I fought to no avail not to burn out from that position as

-Staff called out every week

-I was short staffed and filled multiple roles

-I worked 36-48 hours straight several times

Needless to say, I did BURN OUT; and I quit after working there for only four months.

What I didn’t realize was I sabotaged my money again.—- I accepted a sign-on bonus promising to work for one full year. When I resigned, I owed the company back the bonus I received.

While searching for a new position, I promised myself to never be in a position that would lead to burn out ever again.

My burnouts repeatedly caused me to

throw away money
lose financial security
miss out on gainful opportunities

And that’s just from a financial standpoint.— I also paid social and emotional costs. For example, I

Suffered with depression
Created marital tension
Became self-critical
Lost major contacts
Ate emotionally
Gained weight

After making a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself, I came to the conclusion that without a plan and practical strategy, I was doomed to repeat the same mistakes.

The B.E.A.T. Burnout Framework

Here’s the strategy that I used and now use to help my fellow clinicians to protect their peace and secure their profit through the B.E.A.T. Burnout framework.

B – Boundaries Reset

To B.E.A.T. Burnout, clinicians must set financial, emotional, and energetic boundaries that build income—not drain it. For instance,

✅Set income-protecting limits without guilt.
✅Decide on one stream of income.

Here’s a strategic focus I shared with one of my clients:

“Work with no more than 4 clients in one day to limit the number of notes to complete within the 48 hour deadline.”

E – Emotional Regulation & Earning Clarity

Clinicians need to identify what restores vs. depletes them. I instill the motto:

Create conditions based on your capacity AND your coin.

For instance,

✅Untangle emotions from money decisions.
✅Track how many billable hours missed based on a personal issue or emotional triggers for 3 days.

I personally implemented this strategic focus:

“You are already doing what you love. Resist taking the position with the school district just because it offers health benefits out of fear of getting older.”

A – Aligned Income Action

Clinicians need a push to turn their existing skills, knowledge, and content into income-producing assets (without overworking).

✅Take burnout-free steps toward financial growth.
✅Register for a training to become certified in a particular area, which will strengthen your negotiating power or open doors of opportunities.

One of my fellow colleagues implemented this strategic focus:

“Complete the free 40-hour online training offered by the Bureau of Autism Services within the next 30 days.”

T – Time & Energy Reclamation

The ultimate goal is for clinicians to reclaim their time by eliminating burnout habits and replacing them with high-return, soul-honoring systems.

✅Protect your calendar from invisible drains.
✅Focus on developing a low-ticket offer for income-building.

Here’s another strategic focus I shared with one of my clients:

“Schedule two days a week to create an ebook or Masterclass.”

How This Journal Entry Helped Me Beat Burnout

I am going to keep this short and sweet.

I do not want to lose any more money.—-I am too old for that.

Being honest, authentic and transparent about the effects of my burnouts keep it at the forefront of my mind.

Those days of sabotaging my money are OVA…

If you are like me and are you ready to B.E.A.T. Burnout & Bulletproof Your Bag?

I gotchu…😘

🛑 Stop Sabotaging Your Silver

Here’s this week’s tip on how to keep your green in your jeans.👖

  • Set aside a specific time to review and categorize your expenses.
  • Track your every business/work related expenses, including the purchase of crayons, snacks or copies at Staples.
  • Keep all the receipts in a safe place where the receipts do not fade.
