Journal Entry 6: Burnout 🔥

The Clinician’s Journal Entry

Helping clinicians beat burnout & bulletproof their bag—1 journal entry at a time.

Journal Entry 6 on April 24, 2025

As hubby and I traveled back to Philly from GA, we stayed over in the Research Triangle in Durham-Raleigh, NC. During our trip, I attended a Masterclass for women over 40 about turning existing skills as a 9 to 5er into a viable business. I took copious notes while viewing the presentation.

One point that stood out the most included how most successful business owners start by offering a service rather than a product. The presenter encouraged her audience to think about one problem they solved and how to help others solve that same problem.

That made me think about my own entrepreneurial journey.

Back in 2009, I started off by offering an 8-week individual and group level intervention titled, Demystifying Sexuality and the Impact of Trauma. Using the Circles of Sexuality framework created by the Advocates for Youth, my curriculum helped women understand how sexual trauma impacted each ‘circle’ relating to their sexuality.

Fast forward to 2021, I woke up with a wild hair up my butt.

I said, “I am going to build a successful brand and online business.”

After spending hours viewing YouTube videos, listening to business podcasts and strolling through Instagram, I tried to implement everything I learned at once:

  • High ticket coaching program
  • Facebook groups & LIVES
  • Products on Amazon
  • YouTube channel
  • Podcast
  • IG Ads

Needless to say, I burnt 🔥out

The Masterclass made me think about

  1. My current mile marker along my entrepreneurial journey as a behavioral health clinician
  2. Which problem I overcame that is marketable and profitable
  3. How can I help other clinicians solve that same problem

Then, it came to me:

I have a habit of working until I burn out

AND then

making emotional decisions

THAT sabotage my opportunities, business partnerships

and MONEY…

See, my real pain point wasn’t the burnout 🔥.—It was how the burnout affected my assets and accounts EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I saw over the years how burnout caused my money bag to bleed…

That’s why I created B.E.A.T. Burnout & Bulletproof Your Bag

Intrusive Thoughts

Of course, about 3 hours later as my hubby drove us to dinner, the inner critic rose up within me.

My thoughts about the B.E.A.T. Burnout services shifted from optimism to imposter syndrome.

Here they come again…

Now, you know you tried this online thing before and you did not have much success.
How are you going to get clients and you only have 3 subscribers on your newsletter?
You know you get all excited, try something, you don’t get instant gratification, and then you quit.
You keep trying this stuff. What makes you think it is going to work this time?
You do this every time. You are on one page, hear something, jump off that page, and get on another one.
If it did not work the other 100 times you tried, why do you think it is going to work this time?
You are going to burnout like before trying to do everything: work, newsletter, pastoring, working out, personal life and now coaching.
When are you going to learn you do not have what it takes to make this work or see it through.
You don’t have the ‘systems’ in place that ‘they’ talk about.
You are not good at marketing. You are too afraid to even want to tell people what you do.
You are not confident. You are only going to repeat the same thing and then be embarrassed that you tried something else that flopped.
Just stick to the newsletter first. You just started that.
Now you are trying to get a ‘coaching program’ as a service because the lady in the Master class said ‘that is the way to start.’
You have been here and done that. Get over it. It is not going to work.
You are not going to see it through.
Prove that you can grow the newsletter before trying to get ‘clients’ with a service.

Candidly, my inner critic’s critiques hold some truth.

Like most entrepreneurs, I have tried many things—-and

  • I went through something very personal.
  • I compared myself to others online.
  • I didn’t get instant gratification.
  • It didn’t settle within me.
  • I become impatient.
  • I got bored.
  • I hit reset.

WHY?

Because I can’t shake the entrepreneurial energy I have.

I continuously reiterate ‘my thang’ because…

  1. I have something authentic, profitable and marketable.
  2. I experienced a real pain point.
  3. I turned my actions in assets.

Here’s what I have to offer my fellow clinicians after 25+ years as a professional working with human systems in a myriad of settings…

How This Journal Entry Helped Me Beat Burnout

Journaling about this pain point reminded me that the struggle is real.

Ever since I started my professional career in 2000, I lost so much money whenever I went through something personal because I

-walked away from deals

-left money on the table

-missed opportunities

-called out from work

All due to some form of burn out🔥

If this sounds like you, then you are in the right place.

Are you ready to B.E.A.T. Burnout & Bulletproof Your Bag?

If so, I gotchu…😘
